I can't wait!!

In 2003, a year after its selection of London-based architect Rick Mather, VMFA unveiled a master plan for a $100-million building expansion and transformation of its 13 1/2-acre campus.

Mather's design will provide Virginians with a work of contemporary architecture that will display more fully the museum's extensive collection of world art. His virtuoso handling of transparency and natural light will function as both a tool and a metaphor to open the museum to its surroundings and create an inspiring atmosphere in which to view art. The expansion is expected to be completed in 2009.

The Grand Opening will be this May 1!!
I went to the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts a few years ago and it was so breathtaking *then*, I can't fathom what the expansion will look like!
It was here that I saw my first Warhol, Pollock, and Tiffany!
(Real Tiffany glass is absolutely stunning.)

yes, my friends, peacocks in their glory.

Check out their COLLECTIONS page -- although it doesn't do the museum justice.

Let me know if you'd like to join me -- Richmond, here we come!
