when one door closes....

Changing direction!
New opportunities!
Reinvention!
Rolling with the punches.....

"Part of being a winner is knowing when enough is enough. Sometimes you have to give up the fight and walk away, and move on to something that's more productive." -Donald Trump

The lease on my space for Pillow Mint is up April 1.
I did not re-sign.

*However*, I'm not going away entirely.
I am keeping my online store(!) but revamping a bit to keep the winners, get some new things, and let go of the things that didn't move off the shelves.  A couple of the lines I carry will be picked up by another local boutique.  (More on that later).

What from Pillow Mint would you hate to see gone?  Anything you want to see me carry?

This is the exciting part:
in addition to keeping the online store, I will now be offering by-appointment-only, in home consultations.
I will bring my look-books, catalogs, fabric samples, etc. to you - in your own home!
Pillow Mint delivers!

Call me tenacious, stubborn, and certainly a bit prideful for not giving up completely; but I LOVE what I do; I LOVE my bedding companies, and it has always been my mission to spread the joy.

If you live in Charlottesville -- come in now for some great deals.
I will still be taking special orders for the next week or so; after that
I will be coming to YOU!

Sleep well,
Anita

  1. I'm proud of you for staying so positive! In this economy it's a wonder anyone is shopping! Can't wait to learn what you keep and all the details of your future in-home consultations. I'm sure they'll be a hit! Do keep all the throw pillows you carry, won't you? I just love them! Best of luck on this new adventure!!!! XOXO

  2. Sorry to hear about the closing. HOWEVER, the quote from Trump couldn't be more true! And with this new direction the focus and stress should be much cleaner, and better, so you can focus on the important things. Yay!

  3. As a former store owner (two actually), after 10 years I couldn't remember why I'd gotten into such an exhausting occupation. You will be amazed at how free you feel.

You know I'm a big John Robshaw fan. I'd also like to see you keep ThomasPaul and any crib bedding.

Your thought process inspires me, has from the first day I was so lucky to meet you. HOW am I going to stand not having you & BoyBoy next to me? Back to therapy I go!
This is the beginning of a new, exciting, fresh project and I want to be included.

  7. I echo the comments about the pillows and crib bedding, even though I'm not a mom and I have no idea how it sells.

I did a giveaway with a big, online source of pillows and they wound up being a drop shipper. My winner waited months for her second choice. You already know about Gilt not fulfilling an order for me. From now on, I'm buying local and/or in person. I imagine others are having the same experiences and would love your new service!

  12. I'm sorry the brick and mortar is closing. But the best part of the shop was you, and you don't sound like you're going anywhere any time soon. Just on to bigger and better things. Sending the most sincere wishes of success and happiness your way Anita! You have a fabulous attitude. And I have to second Raina on the merchandise picks, those are all favorites of mine!

  13. Told my Mom of the restructuring of your business. She thought someone coming into your home, trying linens
is the best idea EVER. Saves have to trip back and forth to find the perfect colors. That is hugely imp. when
you are choosing distinguishing color mixes, pillows and such. Truly PERFECT & so much easier for your clients.
Great thinking process! GOOD JOB, wish you'd been doing that when I was buying but you managed to pick perfectly
for our home with your imagination!

  14. Sorry to hear you're closing the shop, but I think the future of retail is online, anyway... I think it's a good move for you. And I LOVE the consulting idea!!!!!

  15. Sounds like a move in the right direction--best of luck Anita! And I second Raina on the lines to keep--Robshaw & Thomas Paul are winners. I'm also partial to some of the stuff from Bliss Living.

    Good luck!
