can i get a break?!

Can I just get a fucking break?!  It has been hotter than the hinges of hell here for the past week, dry as a bone, and the day we FINALLY decide to have our yard sale, it rains.

I woke up at 5:30 this morning and decided to cancel the sale.  I thought of putting everything in the garage, but there was no way to work around the equipment and supplies our handyman is using.  You think we're getting some fancy renovation done?  Think again.

We're getting our house presentable enough to put on the market.  This means doing lots of little home repairs that hubby and I don't have the time/energy/expertise/equipment to do ourselves.

Things like having baseboard put in in the "bedroom" in the basement - the room that is our guest room, but not officially a bedroom because it doesn't have a window.  He is patching holes in drywall from "accidents" by the boys.  He is fixing the toilet downstairs and replacing missing and/or stained ceiling tiles in the drop ceiling.

Oh yes, our whole finished basement has those ugly-ass acoustic tiles.  I would of course LOVE to replace them with a "real" ceiling but we can't afford it.....(remember Eddie Murphy's stand up...I think it was a sing-songy skit about ice cream?  Where he would chide the other neighborhood kids; "you can't afford it  --  'cause you're on welfare..)  I digress.

His list of things to do is a mile long and I have other things to write about in this post, so let's get to it.

We are selling the house simply because we can no longer afford the mortgage.  After refinancing the hell out of our house to fund my business, the payment is too high.  It would have all been just fine had my business been able to survive, but alas, it wasn't and so here we are.

To make matters worse, hubby is not working at the moment.  That means everything you think it means.  And I am trying to keep us afloat on an hourly-wage-paying not-quite-full-time job.
Life at Chez Davis is sucking the big one right now.

The only things that are keeping me from getting in my car and driving down to Mexico, are my children (they're fine by the way and having the summer of their lives!!  thanks to the rich ex and all the grandparents) and the fact that hubby and I have a sense of humor more days than not.

So, heads up creditors -- you're not getting paid this month.  I'm sure my credit score (I used to be so proud of what great credit I had......take a step down, ego) will go to shit, but this is the reality and the truth right now.
One more dose of reality will come when I go to fill my prescription next week and try to pay for it without health insurance.
Fucking rain......I needed to have this yard sale today.

I'm thinking of taking a break from blogging; probably just for the rest of the summer.
I'm sure I'll still be leaving comments on *your* blogs, though.  I'd miss reading what you all have to say!!

Have a great summer!

  1. Wow. So sorry. Pray for, and expect miracles. Many people are in similar spots, but would never admit it.

  2. You are brave and living in reality. These qualities will enable you to get past this stage, regroup and find your way again. As much as we love our "stuff", it is just "stuff" and we DON'T need most of it anyway. You have great taste and style that will ALWAYS shine no matter where or how you guys are living. Things will be less scary and good again- this is just a setback. As you know - we too are struggling with the same issues. Being grateful for the small things - our health, resilience, friends, family, animals and sense of humor is keeping us happy no matter what the hell happens. xoxoxoxoxo

  12. Hang in there girl! All the usual cliches apply here: "things can only get better", "it's all ok as long as you have your health and your family", blah, blah, blah... That kind of crap can make you want to choke someone when you're in the situation you're in, right? So I'll just say this: Love your blog, so come back when you're ready! XOXO

I pray it is behind you soon. I'm glad you and the Mister are taking things in stride and have one another to lean on.

  18. omigosh---you are FABULOUS! i just stumbled onto your blog today and i so know where you are, i'm there too. and those creditors!(i'm not sure my credit could even get any worse. no, really.)fuckers aren't getting paid by me this month either thanks to the insane car trouble that just came me way. i'm not going to say "at least you have this" or "at least you have that" cuz that's not helping! but, i am going to say that i can tell you're clever, you're smart, and i wish i could talk to you everyday! take care, take your time, and i look forward to you coming back. and then tell me how you survived so maybe i can. xo
