look out, lonny

Have you seen
(I found it through Daniella's blog this weekend.)

Nesting Newbies is a new online magazine (Winter 2010 is their second issue), edited by Jodi Murphy.

YES!  another online gawking option.  When the hell am I gonna have time to get things done?   (Thank God my boys know how to do their own laundry!!)
Anyway, here are my thoughts after a couple flips through their "pages".

I love the easy navigation -- much easier to get through than Lonny.
I really like the cooking and entertaining sections-- foodies rejoice!-- they are definitely the strongest parts of the magazine.
Although the decorating seems a tad trite, the name of the magazine (I think) suggests it's geared to those just starting out; "newbies", for whom the looks are probably just fine.
The photography is excellent; the click-throughs are great; they have a "best blogs" page at the end; and rather excellent giveaways as their last page.

I can't wait to see their next issue!
What do you think?!

Mabinti

Mabinti helps to rebuild lives, one woman at a time.

Mabinti (Kiswahili for girls) is a project in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania which trains women recovering from fistula surgery in beading, screen printing and tailoring.
Fistula is a devastating childbirth injury which can occur as a result of prolonged obstructed labor.

(very cool bags made from recycled billboards)

The nature of the disability means that many fistula sufferers are outcasts in their communities and unable to work.  Nearly all of them have lost a baby in childbirth.  The majority are extremely poor.

Through the training and the sale of products, Mabinti enables the women on the project to learn new skills, earn an income and in so doing, offers them hope.

Mabinti products sold at
C & A Camp
310 2nd St. S.E.
Charlottesville, VA
(next door to Pillow Mint)

p.s.  what do you think of her street cow skull?

exquisite geometry

Carrie at Bloomacious loves "the powdery soft blue matched with exquisite geometry" of this "ottoman" designed by Noé Duchaufour-Lawrance.
So do I!

Are we seeing a trend here?
Trend or not,  geometry, angles and facets are doing it for me lately!

HALF-OFF!

The price on the Kluge Estate has been cut in half to
only $48 million.

Patricia Kluge put her 300-acre estate on the market for
$100 million back in October of 2009.
The $100 million price point made the estate one of the most expensive listings in the United States. Kluge's real estate agency, Sotheby's International Realty, advertises the eight-bedroom, thirteen-bathroom Georgian Single Family home as one of the most important residences in the United States.
However, apparently the $100 million price tag was a bit too optimistic a price for the Albemarle County estate.
"We chose a price of $100 million based on some other sales of spectacular properties around the world," says Albemarle House listing agent Michael Rankin of Sotheby's International Realty. "We went out into the market for three months and didn't achieve that price."
Rankin expressed optimism that the new price "reflects where we are in the market."

*Their words, not mine!  Actually, it's the name of their store -- TINI for short.  You can read about the shop and the concept HERE.  They are located in L.A., but I believe they ship.  The website is awesome; there are lots of ways to search....color is one, but they also have a staff "favorites," and new arrivals.
I'm curious to know what you think of their name.....
personally, I think they could've gotten their message across without dissing on ikea.  What say you?
